After struggling to find cakes and biscuits that were free from all allergens, I started baking my own.

Over the years, I developed multiple food allergies, which slowly restricted my diet. I had to change my mindset and how I ate food. These days, I make most of my food from scratch, including sauces.

When my first son was born, he had a mild dairy intolerance, which we managed quite easily.

My real challenges came when my second son was born with multiple food allergies. This resulted in repeated illnesses and vitamin deficiencies due to his restricted diet. During this time, I researched healthier alternatives and became more aware of the additional ingredients found in prepared foods.

I had been baking for many years but stopped when my allergies became more prominent. I started baking again when my second son became more aware of his allergies and how restricted his diet was. This became more apparent when we attended celebrations such as birthday parties.

I researched replacement ingredients and practised at every opportunity. There was a lot of trial and error. Eventually, I made my first successful allergen-free cake. Over the years, I improved the taste and texture by adding and changing ingredients, refining my techniques, and essentially unlearning everything I had previously learned about baking.

I began to enjoy baking again, and Mama Jose Creations was born. I want to share my cakes with everyone. I want those with multiple food allergies to enjoy cakes just as much as anybody else.

My mission is to make cakes inclusive for everyone. I want to remove the awkwardness of requesting special treatment. I believe alternatives can be provided at events without singling anyone out.

We bake cookies, cupcakes, celebration cakes, traybakes, and more. All of our bakes are customised to suit each occasion. Our products are free from the 14 main allergens. We understand that some people have allergies beyond the main allergens — we do too — and we have ways of tailoring ingredients to suit specific dietary needs. Inclusivity is always our aim.

Our bakes are for everyone. If you have an event, you can share our cakes with all guests, meaning nobody has to feel different. I have spent years experimenting with ingredients to achieve the lightest, fluffiest cakes possible using alternative ingredients. I am now sharing these with you, so people with allergies can still feel part of the celebrations.
